Project Background

Lincoln Yards is redefining Chicago’s North Branch Corridor, transforming 53 acres of former industrial land into a vibrant hub for innovation and sustainability. As the first completed building in the Lincoln Yards development, 1229 W Concord sets the tone for the project’s vision. Designed by Gensler, this eight-story, 285,000-square-foot life sciences facility highlights the seamless integration of advanced architecture and Vitro Architectural Glass products.

The building’s facade features Solarban® 90 Acuity® glass, providing high clarity paired with exceptional solar control. Solarban® 90 Acuity® glass delivers a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.23 and a visible light transmittance (VLT) of 53%, allowing the building to maintain abundant daylight while reducing cooling loads.

The design also integrates Solarban® 60 Starphire® glass in key areas, supporting applications where exceptional clarity and visual aesthetics are essential, while delivering proven energy efficiency. Offering a VLT of 74% and SHGC of 0.41, Solarban® 60 Starphire® glass is an ideal choice for vision glass, skylights, atriums, storefronts and entryways.

Located along one of the world’s busiest migratory bird paths, the building also incorporates bird-safe design elements.

With the superior performance of Solarban® low-e glass by Vitro and low iron substrates, Starphire Ultra-Clear® and Acuity® glasses, this project not only supports Chicago’s growing life sciences community but also sets a standard for environmentally conscious architecture.
