Project Background

Adidas' North American headquarters expansion transforms its Portland campus into a more connected destination for work, collaboration and sport. Designed by LEVER Architecture, the LEED® Gold-certified project adds two new buildings organized around a central sports plaza, bridging the campus' existing and new spaces while introducing offices, meeting areas, maker labs, dining spaces and athletic facilities.

Helping bring that vision to life are Solarban® R67 and Solarban® 60 Acuity® glasses by Vitro Architectural Glass. Fabricated by Vitrum Glass Group and installed by Culver Glass, the glazing package supports the project goals to achieve improved energy efficiency while maintaining the transparency and visual clarity central to the design.

Solarban® R67 glass was selected for its ability to accurately transmit and reflect the tone and brightness of ambient light and color. Combined with low interior and exterior reflectivity, the glass provides a crisp, clear aesthetic while delivering proven solar control performance. With a visible light transmittance (VLT) of 54% and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.29, Solarban® R67 glass helps create bright, inviting spaces throughout the campus expansion.

The project also incorporates Solarban® 60 Acuity® glass, which pairs Vitro's solar control low-e technology with Acuity® low-iron glass. Developed from decades of low-iron glass manufacturing expertise, Acuity® glass is 60% less green than standard clear glass, providing enhanced clarity and a more neutral appearance. In a one-inch insulating glass unit, Solarban® 60 Acuity® glass delivers 73% VLT and a SHGC of 0.41, balancing daylighting benefits with effective solar heat gain control.

Inspired by the energy of small stadium environments, the expansion creates spaces where people can gather, collaborate and move throughout the campus. Together, Solarban® R67 and Solarban® 60 Acuity® glasses help support that experience and have been used as a glazing choice inspiration for many subsequent R67 projects..
