Meet Paul Bush
Vice President, Quality & Technical Services, Vitro Architectural Glass
Paul Bush serves on so many industry committees and organizations that it’s hard to imagine how he gets his regular job done. If asked, though, he’d probably tell you that all those extracurricular activities help him do his job better – especially when it comes to developing glass solutions for his customers.
As vice president of quality and technical services, Paul’s primary responsibility is to direct quality initiatives and provide technical support to Vitro Glass customers. That’s a big job by itself but when that isn’t occupying his time, Paul devotes tremendous effort to furthering the interests of the glass industry.
One recent example was the National Glass Association’s (NGA’s) Annual Glazing Executive Forum, which Paul participated in last September. As part of a panel titled “Building for Tomorrow,” Paul joined leaders from Bagatelos Architectural Glass, Permasteelisa North America, Birch Point Consulting and Olson Kundig Architects to help conference attendees understand the stakes in the glass industry’s ongoing “Battle for the Wall.”
As chair of the NGA’s Advocacy Committee, Paul is among those leading the charge in this “battle” to promote energy-efficient glazing products while protecting the industry’s manufacturers against attempts by various code bodies to prescribe smaller glazing areas on commercial buildings.
Paul also is co-chair of the Innovation steering committee for the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA), the new organization created through the unification of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA). That committee is responsible for evaluating the scope, cost and intended use of proposed industry-wide research projects, as well as their monitoring and execution. The committee also provides direction to FGIA’s new board of directors.
As head of the committee’s Architectural Products division, Paul works closely with Jeff Haberer of Trulite Glass & Aluminum Solutions, Jagdeep Singh Mann of Vitrum Glass Group and Gnatt Miller of Winco Manufacturing, Inc.
Here are a few of the other leadership roles Paul maintains in the glass industry:
- First vice president, FGIA Glass Material Council;
- Chairman, FGIA Designed for Sloped Glazing Task Group;
- Co-chair, FGIA Innovation Steering Committee, Architectural Products;
- Vitro Glass representative, National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), an organization he has served in various roles for 23 years;
- Member, ASTM C14 Committee on Glass and Glass Products; and
- Member, Natural Resources Canada, Energy Efficient Fenestration Steering Committee
Paul joined Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) in 1986 and has held a variety of increasingly responsible management positions related to product development, product quality and technical services. Those posts enabled him to participate in the development of many of Vitro Glass’ most commercially successful post-temperable low-e glass products and to help create the PPG certified and Vitro Certified™ fabricator networks. Paul also holds a U.S. patent on glass fabrication.
In his spare time, Paul is an active 20-year volunteer member of the National Ski Patrol. He also has been on church council and volunteered time to youth development organizations such as the 4-H Club and Boy Scouts of America.
