Meet Logan Tautkus-Berry
Senior Technical Service Representative/Sustainability
Logan Tautkus-Berry has been a cornerstone of Vitro for over a decade, contributing significantly to its growth and innovation. His journey began as a Research & Development Engineer, where he played a pivotal role in developing and launching Solarban® 90 glass, the world’s first quad-silver low-e glass.
Recently, Logan has embraced a new challenge, transitioning into the role of Senior Technical Service Representative/Sustainability. Previously dedicated to driving innovation behind the scenes, Logan has now stepped into a more customer-focused role, conducting comprehensive audits and ensuring customers are following evolving policies and regulations.
"I’m passionate about supporting our customers because their success drives our own,” said Logan. “I’m also eager to learn from our technical services team, whose expertise is truly invaluable. This opportunity to step into their area – big shoes to fill – motivates me to carry forward the incredible work they’ve accomplished."
This isn’t Logan’s first time rising to the occasion at Vitro. When he joined the team, a wave of experienced experts retired, leaving him to quickly adapt and take on new responsibilities. Logan embraced the opportunity, spearheading the development of three major innovations: Sungate ThermL™ Glass, Spandrelite™ Glass, and BirdSmart® Bird Safe Glass. His leadership and adaptability have played a pivotal role in driving Vitro's progress, though he credits his achievements to the vast knowledge obtained from mentors.
"In both roles, I’ve had the privilege of asking insightful questions and receiving responses that not only tackle present challenges but also drive meaningful progress,” explained Logan.
Driving meaningful progress is at the heart of what Vitro does, and Logan exemplifies this commitment. A recent achievement underscores this dedication: he orchestrated the rigorous testing of BirdSmart® Bird Safe Glass while also pioneering best practices. This accomplishment is particularly impactful, as the industry has yet to develop a set of standards for testing bird friendly glazings.
“We don’t wait around for others to create standards,” said Logan. “Our team worked tirelessly to research any testing that could be applicable or relevant to BirdSmart® glass, with a focus on the physical properties. This established a baseline knowledge and, ultimately, best practices.”
Logan also manages sustainability and technical documentation, including Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which measure the global warming potential (GWP) of embodied carbon. Thanks to Vitro’s dedicated efforts to reduce GWP, and full transparency throughout the processes, all architectural glass products across all plants meet low-embodied carbon standards set by the USGSA.
“We know that it takes a lot of energy to produce glass, but we are transparent with our numbers, establishing a baseline so we can push ourselves to improve. This commitment also inspires our customers and even other manufacturers to strive for greater progress.”
When he’s not filling big shoes at Vitro, he’s likely lacing up his running shoes. Logan, a passionate runner, channels his love for the sport into supporting a cause close to his heart: autism awareness. Inspired by his mother, a dedicated teacher for children with special needs, he combines his passion with purpose.
When he’s not running for a cause, you’ll probably find him chasing after his two young sons, ages 5 and 7. Or, he might be fine-tuning his craft in fruit winemaking. “Strawberry seems to be a favorite among those who’ve tried it,” he shared.
Perhaps he’ll put the recipe on Vitro’s technical documents web page.
