Meet Erin Casci
Product Manager, MSVD Coated Products, Vitro Architectural GlassIn early 2023, Erin Casci was named product manager for MSVD coated products, a product group that includes Vitro’s signature Solarban® family of solar control, low-emissivity (low-e) coatings. In her role, Erin is responsible for leading new MSVD product development and serves as a key liaison between Vitro’s customers and several key business segments, including research and development, operations, and marketing and innovation.
After spending much of the past year working closely with the innovation team at Vitro, Erin is now preparing for the upcoming launch of several key products that meet a range of important customer needs, especially the capacity to meet stricter building codes and standards relating to glass performance.
“We’re really digging into the development of new products in 2024,” says Erin. “There are a bunch of things in the pipeline, and thanks to the addition of Coater 8, our capabilities for glass production are expanding.”Since joining Vitro in 2015, Casci has been based at the Vitro Glass Technology Center and has worked in research and development on several product innovations including hydrophobic glass coatings, glass surface preservation, protecting low-e coatings against mechanical damage, and developing environmentally responsive products.
Prior to working at Vitro, Erin worked in the environmental sector and considers ecological issues to be close to her heart.
“At Vitro, I get to be ‘boots on the ground’ for sustainability processes and products ranging from bird-friendly glass to higher-performing low-e products,” Erin says. “Now that I’ve moved closer to the innovation team, I get to experience this on an even larger scale, become involved in more projects and see how Vitro is working to provide better products for our world.”
Most recently, Erin has been preparing for the launch of Sungate ThermL™ glass, a new low-e coating engineered for use on the interior surface of a typical one-inch IGU that dramatically improves U-values when paired with a Solarban® solar control, low-e glass on the second surface.
“Sungate ThermL™ glass is a really exciting product for us, and it’s a little different from what we’re likely best known for,” explains Erin. “Our Solarban® glass products are silver based, whereas Sungate ThermL™ is an ITO-coated glass, which puts us into a new technical space in terms of low-emissivity technology.”
Sungate ThermL™ glass is also noteworthy for being a fourth surface MSVD coating that is durable enough to withstand use on the interior surface, which helps dramatically improve U-values and offers a wider range of performance configurations for architects and glaziers.
Additionally, Erin and her team are preparing to debut a new Solarban® glass, Solarban® 65 glass which combines the best of both worlds when it comes to performance and visual characteristics.
“Not only is Solarban® 65 glass an improvement in terms of performance, which is now necessary in a lot of places because of stricter code standards, but it also features a brightened, modern aesthetic,” says Erin.
Of course, Erin’s passion for the environment isn’t limited to her work at Vitro. Away from the office, Erin is passionate about going outdoors and enjoys being active in nature. In fact, she recently won a 15-mile kayaking race in Mercer, and she’s looking forward to snow this winter to start skiing again.
