Meet Dan Sutton
Product Manager for Value Added Products, Vitro Architectural GlassHis official title at Vitro is product manager for value added products, but if Dan Sutton had an alternate title, it would have to be “professional multitasker.” From serving as a liaison between research and development, and customers and end-users, to coordinating product launches, Dan plays an integral role with Vitro’s marketing and innovation team.
“I’m fortunate to be able to use my background to help showcase why Vitro products are more energy-efficient, what that could lead to down the road and why they are the smart choice,” Dan said. “A lot of architects and designers may not know enough about our technology, so I get the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits and why it’s important.”
Dan joined Vitro in 2017 as a member of the architectural services team, providing project analysis, LEED® compliance documentation and customer support. Two years later, he became a national architectural manager (NAM) for the Great Lakes region, delivering product, technology and service solutions to architectural designers and other customers in commercial construction markets.
That wealth of experience serves Dan well in his current position, as he works to educate architects and designers on Vitro’s latest innovation: VacuMax™ Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG). VacuMax™ VIG integrates with any traditional (and even nontraditional) glazing system to maximize insulation performance. With an R-value of R14, VacuMax™ VIG is the ultimate in thermal glazing, delivering R-values close to those of a traditional wall.
“Vacuum-insulating glass technology is still something that’s very foreign to a lot of designers,” Dan said. “It’s not what they’re used to. The biggest challenge for me right now is education, explaining the benefits of VacuMax™ VIG and how it makes buildings better and more sustainable.”
Dan and his team are currently working on an AIA CEU course on vacuum insulating glass to help field teams get a leg up on educating the next generation of designers on this game-changing technology.
Outside the office, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters, as well as working on cars at his uncle’s auto shop on the weekends. And now that football season is here, you might find him at the next Penn State home game.
“I love watching the games,” he said. “I’m looking forward to watching my daughters grow up to be big Penn State football fans.”
As the rollout of VacuMax™ VIG progresses, Dan will continue to provide customers with his insight gained from years of experience in operations, sustainability, project analysis and more.
“I feel like each position I’ve had at Vitro has been a steady build to get here,” he said. “At Vitro, no matter what your role is, you are an asset to this company, and everything I’ve had the opportunity to do has helped to build my knowledge base. I feel fortunate that I’m in a place in my career where I can share that knowledge with so many others.”
